In our ever-changing culture, it is imperative that teens understand their worth in life. The national suicide rate is highest among America's teens. The number one cause of death among teenagers is suicide. Why? I believe it is because many young people are made to feel left out and unworthy by many adults in today's society. It has been pushed into their head that they have very little to offer society other than loud music, weird tattoo's, piercings and ridiculous hairstyles. This was not the case in the early 1900's when teens were sought after to help families remain afloat and assist in running the family business's. Today, that sense of contribution and self-worth has been taken away from them by a self-seeking, self-pleasing culture. Without experience or a higher education they do not have the credentials to qualify themselves in life.
Some adults never see that the reason some teens act in rebellion or display attention-seeking behavior is to be recognized and made to feel worth of acceptance and love. When teens are told repeatedly that their opinion doesn't count and they are not experienced enough to form an opinion, they begin to believe they have no value to anyone. They may also become incapable of making good choices on their own. This has the effect of suppressing them and rather than burden anyone they would rather take their own life. No, I am not an accredited psychologist, psychiatrist, or anything of the such. I know now though that I am a very important person because i am just like them and we were created by God.
Teenagers, I am here to personally let you know that you are valuable to God. God is the one who created you and made you valuable by giving you a unique purpose in life. Jeremiah chapter one shows us a conversation between the Almighty God and a normal teenager just like you. God called Jeremiah to his appointed ministry betwen the ages of thirteen and seventeen. He was appointed to stand before kings and condemn them for their evil doings. My point is that God is the only one who knows you and what He appointed you to do. It is not for someone else to tell you when you can begin your journey, that is God's place and His alone. Remember, always accept wise counsel, but reject faithless discouragement that says you are too young to make a difference for Christ.
If you feel like God has laid something on your heart to say, please feel free to submit it to us here at TeenWords and we will try to get it posted on our weekly post. Submit to TeenWords@noshameministries.org
God is really moving in the ministry in 2008 and we are looking for Him to take us to new places and show us great things this year. We would love for you to be a part of what God is doing in this nation. If you are interested in having a speaker come, please email us at info@noshameministries.org.
